For 9 years we have followed the footprints that official chronicles erased: the African samurai Yasuke who vanished without a grave, the demon-blade Muramasa that the Tokugawa banned, the faceless onmitsu who moved like ghosts between castles.
Our method is simple: every legend is a crime scene. We map timelines, examine blades under microscope, interview swordsmiths in Seki, walk mountain passes at night, and compare 5–12 conflicting sources before we tell you: here is what we know, here is what we will never know — and why it matters.

Bushido was not a rulebook — it was a way to die well. Nitobe, Hagakure and real death poems reveal a harsher, stranger code.
義 GI — Justice
Strike only when right. A samurai who kills for anger is a murderer with a license. 47 Ronin waited 2 years to make their revenge righteous.
勇 YU — Courage
Courage is not absence of fear. At Sekigahara, 30,000 fled — heroes were those who stepped forward while trembling.
仁 JIN — Mercy
The sword that kills must also save. Katsumoto taught: spare the farmer, feed the enemy child, then return to war.
礼 REI — Respect
Bow to your enemy before you kill him. Musashi bowed to every opponent — even those he intended to destroy in seconds.
誠 MAKOTO — Honesty
A word is a cut. No contracts needed. When a daimyo broke promise, his entire clan was stained for generations.
名誉 MEIYO — Honor
Honor over life. Seppuku was not suicide — it was proof that the soul remained unbroken when the body failed.

Was there really a Black samurai? Is Yasuke myth?
No myth — Jesuit letters, Nobunaga’s chronicle Shinchō Kōki and Matsudaira records confirm Yasuke existed, received stipend, carried swords, fought at Honnō-ji. Mystery is not existence, but disappearance: after 1582 no Japanese source mentions him.
Could a katana really cut through another sword?
Almost never. Tamahagane steel is hard but brittle. Cutting another blade would chip both. Legends of sword-breaking are about cutting the hilt, wrist or spirit — not steel vs steel.
Did samurai really commit seppuku for honor?
Yes, but rarely and ritualized. Most seppuku were punishments ordered by lords, not voluntary heroics. The Hagakure romanticized it 100 years after the wars ended.
Who would win: samurai vs knight?
Depends on battlefield. Mounted samurai archer beats knight at distance; dismounted knight in plate beats katana up close. Both would respect each other — then try to cheat.
